MUSICIAN | Ted Taforo

Ted Taforo is a Los Angeles-based musician. He is also a two-time recipient of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award, who is known for his versatility, unique compositions, and powerful saxophone sound. Taforo has worked with a variety of artists including Spoon, Duncan Thum, Superet, Johanna Samuels, Lauren Baba, David Tranchina, Jeff Bernat, Maxim Ludwig, Efa Etoroma Jr. and others. He first attended the Eastman School of Music where he studied jazz and saxophone. It wasn’t until he arrived at CalArts in 2012, that he started fusing that background with influences from other genres such as Javanese Gamelan, funk, and electronic music. Taking courses in Ableton while experimenting with keyboards such as the Casio MT-100 and the Yamaha DX-7, Ted began making beats and producing music with an electronic sound palette.

Taforo has been releasing albums under his own name, as well as collaborative side projects such as Snow Nerds and Tundra Two, since early 2016. Taforo has released two recordings of original music with the LA-based Future Gods label, which are available on streaming platforms. On September 27th, 2021 Taforo will release an instrumental recording of 24 miniature chamber compositions entitled 'Music For Saxophone'.
